Please join us in honoring the life and memory of Shirley Tsang. Your presence and support during this difficult time are greatly appreciated.

Shirley Tsang, age 77, passed into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ, on June 30, 2023 after a lengthy battle with dementia. She resided in Rochester, Minnesota, recently but lived a long, happy life with her husband Joseph, who preceded her in death, in Brooklyn, New York (where they shared every day with precious friends at Amico Senior Center). She is survived by her children David (and Vicki), Sandra (and John), and Jeffrey (and Cari), and four grandchildren, Cora, Mika, Ezra, and Ava. She was the second youngest of five children born to Colonel and Madame Chiang Kee-Yen who spent time at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota when Col. Chiang was shot down as a Chinese Air Force Flying Tiger pilot by Japanese enemy forces and sustained life-threatening injuries. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, older brother, John Chiang, and is survived by her sisters, Mary (named for St. Mary’s Hospital), Patty and Jenny.

Shirley worked at Macy’s Department Store in NYC for over 20 years. She started working at the Macy’s vault keeping track of cash because she was good at accounting and trustworthy. She then moved onto sales in the Jewelry department. Shirley was so successful because of her friendly personality and no-pressure sales that she eventually became the top salesperson in the Region. She was recognized and awarded by top Macy’s Executives at a dinner/award ceremony in Manhattan where a special limousine came to pick her up in Brooklyn. Shirley had a special way of connecting with people. Her charm, genuine heart and fun sense of humor brought joy and laughter with the people she met. She loved people, music, and dancing and could light up a room with her contagious smile and cute, little laugh. Shirley was loving and kind to everyone no matter how she was treated.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cottagewood Memory Care, especially those in Cottage 5 which was Shirley’s place of residence for five and a half years. They loved and cared for her so well and always communicated with compassion with her family. We would also like to show appreciation for Heartland Hospice who supported and comforted Shirley during the last year and a half of her life as well as the ladies of Healing Rhythms who brought music that brought enjoyment to her heart.

We thank the people of Trinity Presbyterian Church for upholding Mom and the entire Tsang family in prayer over the years through many health trials; in particular, we thank Maureen Bacon, longtime visitor and faithful friend who spent many hours with Mom throughout the years, singing, sharing Scripture and memories, and praying with Shirley. Ultimately, we thank God for His good provision of care and comfort for Mom during her life and death; we praise God that He continues to cradle her in His arms for all eternity.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cottagewood Senior Community, 4220 55th St NW, Rochester, MN 55901 or to Healing Rhythms Music Therapy LLC, 847 5th St NW, Rochester, MN 55901 and AMICO 59th Street Older Adult Center, 5901 13th Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11219
